Marco Polo airport to Trento by train

We are arriving at the Venice airport later this month and want to travel to Trento by train. It looks as if we should be able to take a bus to Mestre and a direct train from there.

However...the Trenitalia site doesn't accept Mestre as our departure site. When I type in "Mestre" it is is changed to "Venice St. Lucia.". There is apparently a bus (the ATVO Fly Bus) from the airport to Mestre and it seems to us that it would be simpler to take the bus to Mestre than to go into Venice to St. Lucia station.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I just tried "Venezia Mestre" to Trento on the Trenitalia site and got a number of options.

Will you be going directly to Trento on arrival? If yes, no reason to go into Venice to leave from SL.

It is NOT, IMO "easier" to get to Santa Lucia than taking either a bus OR a taxi (have you thought of THAT possibility) to Mestre.
On the Trenitalia site PUT IN Venezia Mestre as the origin and see what happens

and there is no direct service to Trento I suspect you are going to have to change in Verona Porto Nuova and that is an EASY place to change.

Thanks, Mme Perdue and Dukey.

Dukey, we thought we found a direct train, but I'll certainly look again. I'm glad you agree that there is no reason to go into St. Lucia.

I only looked at a few of the timings and I would look at ALL of them. You may very well HAVE found a direct timing and if that works better for you, time-wise, go for it.

I just wanted to assure you that changing trains at PN in Verona is nothing to be concerned about. It has a number of platforms with the usual walkway running between and beneath all of them with stairwells. There are also elevators you can use to go up and down if needed.

Thanks again, Dukey,

We have a number of possibilities now that should fit our time schedule. We certainly don't have to have a non-stop train. I think we are more interested in the ones in which we would change in Bassano, an area we haven't seen.

Have you been to Trento? We are so looking forward to the area an, of course, the mountains.

Yes, I have been to Trent(o) and Bozen and environs. I have not spent nearly as much time in that part of Italy as I would like but I am certain you will enjoy it.
