Cheapest way: Walk to the bus station at Piazzale Roma and take the orange local bus (1 euro) to the airport. The walk wouldn't be that bad--four bridges and perhaps 20 minutes.

Next cheapest: Walk to the bus station and take the blue express bus (3 euro) which goes directly to the airport.

Next cheapest: Take a vaporetto from San Marcuola 3 stops to Piazzale Roma. I think the orange bus would be included in the cost of this ticket, the blue bus would be extra.

I'd do a test run of the walk the day before to check your timing.

Yes, but one of those bridges would be the Scalzi bridge, one of the highest (if not *the* highest) in Venice. I've done it with luggage - because the vaporetti were on strike - and I didn't enjoy it.

stevie asked for the cheapest . . .

If the new bridge between the train station and bus station will be open in time, that would eliminate the Scalzi.

Fair enough, but s/he should know what's involved.

The Calatrava bridge from Ferrovia to Piazzale Roma will be inaugurated in December, so it's not a possibility for this coming Saturday.

That's why I suggested a trial run the day before . . .
