Marco Polo Airport

We're heading for Italy next month and Venice is the last stop. We have an early morning (7:30) flight home. I've been warned about getting to the Venice airport early and also that it's difficult to get from a t Mark's area hotel early because it requires water travel. Would we be best off moving to someplace like mestre for the last night. We won't have a car. Would such a transfer be difficult?

Why not take the Alilaguna water bus from St. Mark's square to the airport, leaving at 4:50 a.m. You'll get to the airport by 6:00 a.m., and the one-way fare is a reasonable 10 Euros. You should reserve your seats a few days in advance, as this service is quite popular, particularly the first boat of the morning!

Do you really want to spend the last, magical night in Italy in Mestre????

Hi soos,

You could also have your hotel arrange for a water taxi for you. About 80E, but it's faster.

We just took a water taxi on Tuesday to the airport. Depending on where your hotel is located and how much luggage you have and considering that this is an early flight, I would opt for the water taxi. They come to the closest canal to your hotel and you are at the airport in less than 30 minutes...and they help you with the luggage which is very nice.

Once you arrive by water, there is a shuttle to the terminal.
