March in Europe
I'm trying to figure out where to travel In march for a week with My kids who are 7,9&11 and I will be meeting my sister who is coming from Israel. Any suggestions for a warmer type place that's half way Btwn new york and Israel would be great. I'd like to do some sightseeing and potentially be somewhere warm enough to swim. I was initially thinking Barcelona and Portugal. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

I think you are going to be disappointed if you think you will find comfortable swimming in March in Europe. For example, the usual temperature for the water at Nice beaches in March is 13 degrees C., 55 degrees F. in March. The sea temperature at Barcelona would only be a very few degrees warmer, and Faro in Portugal about the same with a maximum of 16 degrees C., 66 F.
That is much too cold for me to enjoy a dip at the beach! |
I think you can swim in southern Spain by the end of April (but then I'm used to the North Atlantic). March is still too early for swimming unless in a heated pool.

Well, you could go to Israel or to Crete which might be warm enough for the kids.

March is tough for beach weather. Crete is only at around 14, as is Malta - even Tenerife is only at around 18 Celsius, and places in Morocco like El Jadida barely make it to 20.

March is more winter in most places than it is swimming weather. Why not go to Israel where it will be warmer?

Hello,
Greece and ItaLy are the best destinations. The weather is very sunny both the 2 countries too and you will have the oportunity to see a lot of things. Especially, Athens and Rome have a big variety of historical monuments. |
Nowhere in Europe is warm enough to swim in the sea, even the Canary Islands. Why not try the Caribbean?
