March hotels in Rome?

Hi All!
First trip to Italy, 4 nights in Rome from March 3rd-7th. I'm wondering... for a double room w/ a private bath (hopefully at least 3 stars), am I asking too much if I'm looking in the $70-80 price range? AND close to the sights?

I know, it doesn't help that the $ is losing value... any help, comments appreciated!

Fraid so..if you are looking for a 3 star..even in March

I think that's probably asking too much, particularly the 3* requirement.

But take a look at these sites:

http://www.venere.com
http://www.ryanairhotels.com
http://www.easyclicktravel.com
http://www.hotelclub.net
http://www.hrs.de
http://www.laterooms.com
http://www.cross-pollinate.com

This place is a budget hotel with some hostel beds, but has very good reviews:

I wouldn't select a hotel without getting lots of reviews and possibly asking about it here, because it's easy to make a mistake and get a so-so or worse location.

You might also want to consider convents, which have been posted about on other threads.

I see that even Papa Germano is well over your price limit. Good luck with the search.

Or maybe you were really trying to say $70-80 per person per night.

Either way, take a look through the listings on www.eurocheapo.com

Best wishes,

Rex

Mitch:
I may have messed up your thread. I think it may have something to do with posting links to other threads or sites. I'm posting this to see if it shows up and maybe even fix it.

Well, now my first post isn't showing up, so I'll make it short.

Look at Hotel Italia. It gets generally good reviews at tripadvisor.com. Low season rate is 70 euros...about $90. One thread said they have a "Rick Steves" discount if you show them his book. Do a search here on Fodors for "hotel italia" using the Italy topic.

Late reply, but we ended up staying at Hotel Aberdeen, using a Rick Steve's discount, and it was... 85-90 Euro/ night.

Great hotel... larger than I expected, and a great location for us. It was close to Termini and to a smaller station, we took the subway or walked everywhere.
