Your question is a wide one. What's your budget for hotels and restaurants and what type of food do you like? How long are you there for and will you have a car to be mobile along the coast and inland.

looking at staying in marbella club we are willing to try anything food wise with the exceptoion of shell fish yes we will have a car

There are a number of good restaurants in Puerto Banus and if you're there for a week, then have a wander round and see what you fancy. There's also Tony Dalli's restaurant that's worth a look for NYE, though it may well be booked up now.
It isn't cheap and there's cabaret as well as reasonable food.

As far as things to do are concerned, you can consider:

Gibraltar
Ronda
Sotogrande and the white villages(if you play golf)
Mijas (the old village in the hills)

We took a day trip from Marbella to Granada. It's a long day for sure but it's doable. Gibraltar, also.

We also visited the Nerja Caves, which we loved.

are there still day trips to tangere if so is it worth it

A lot of restaurants in Marbella mentioned in the Repsol guide, the Spanish equvivalent to the Michelin guide. If you want to splurge one night, I would recommend you to go to a restaurant that specializes in local cuisine. Spain has got a great number of the best restaurants in the world (three among top ten in the prestigious 2011 San Pellegrino guide, US, France and Italy one each), and some of them are down here.

Perhaps classical Restaurante Santiago at the waterfront? Some 50 years in the business and considerd one of the best bets in Marbella. http://www.restaurantesantiago.com/

Calima is unfortunately closed between 15th of October and April.

pcall..there are differing opinions about the trip across to Tangiers, personally I think it's a waste of time. I've done it and didn't enjoy it. It's not like the rest of Morocco and doesn't give you a taste of the country. e found it dirty and pushy.

At Christmas, it's possible that ferry crossings may be disrupted if the weather is bad.
