Maraishouse address HELP

I have reservations at the Maraishouse in Paris. I had no trouble making the reservation, but I need the address and how to get there from the metro stop. I don't know if my email is not working, or if the owner is out, but I haven't had any response to my emails. I tried to call today, but whoever kept answering the phone informed me I must speak french. Well my french stinks, and I tried. I leave for France in a week. Help.

tekwriter Jan 6th, 2007 10:12 AM

I did a search in the French Yellow Pages for you, but I find no listings for any hotel in Paris with the words "maraishouse" or just "house" in the name. I searched all hotels with the word "Marais" in them and nothing was close.

I'm curious how you could make a hotel reservation without knowing the address! Are you 100% sure that's the name of the hotel, exactly how it's spelled?

tekwriter Jan 6th, 2007 10:26 AM

OK, I just found the website for Marais House and I can see your frustration! Because it's a private B&B, it wouldn't be listed as hotel in the Yellow Pages. The photos look spectacular but nowhere does it give you an exact address! The map is extremely vague! Yikes!

If you want to give the phone call another try, here's what to say in French:

J'ai un reservation and j'ai besoin de votre addresse. Ou est le metro le plus proche? (I have a reservation and I need your address. Which metro is closest?)

or- J'ai besoin de parler avec quelqu'un en Anglais, s'il vous plait. (I need to speak to someone in English, please.)

Given that their website is in perfect English, someone over there must speak it! Do you have the owner's name?

cigalechanta Jan 6th, 2007 10:30 AM

Sorry, I meant click on map fpor location. email and phone are by clicking contact.
I love the Marais!

fishee Jan 6th, 2007 10:40 AM

Your closest metro would be Arts et Metiers (#3 line, I think) -- looks like it's only 1 block away. Crazy that there's no exact address on the site!

That's a cute neighborhood you're staying in -- walk east on Rue du Bretagne to get to the outdoor market.

fishee Jan 6th, 2007 10:49 AM

Found a site that says it's on Rue de Montmorency which is actually 4 blocks south of arts et metier station. If the address is very

cigalechanta Jan 6th, 2007 10:52 AM

This site gives you the metro stops.

Looking at the map on their website, my guess is it's on rue au Maire, perhaps in the 30s.

One review on Tripadvisor, negative comments... (sorry).

AnselmAdorne Jan 6th, 2007 10:57 AM

fishee, good sleuthing. I was going by the star on their map, and the star looked like it was a couple of blocks north of rue de Montmorency.

Anselm

fishee Jan 6th, 2007 11:54 AM

I did the same thing, the star is huge and covers several blocks, doesn't it!

At this point, just call for the exact address -- sounds like it's 40's-50's Rue de Montmorency given the reference to the Flemel house. Etienne Marcel station might be a good choice if that line is more convenient.

The owner sounds a little insufferable, based on the articles, not just the TA review...

cigalechanta Jan 6th, 2007 12:08 PM

The site I posted lists Temple, Rambuteau and arts et metiers as metro stops for the guest house.
The maps looks like it could be at near the corner of Beaubourg and Rambuteau.

jody Jan 6th, 2007 12:11 PM

Am I the only one who thinks it a bit weird that a hotel, B&B, guest house would have their address on their website?

jody Jan 6th, 2007 12:12 PM

WOULD NOT have their address on their website!

fishee Jan 6th, 2007 12:13 PM

It's totally crazy.

fishee Jan 6th, 2007 12:15 PM

That map is pretty useless -- it's on Rue de Montmorency.

lippincottfarm Jan 6th, 2007 12:17 PM

Thanks folks, I actually did all you suggested before I posted. I ran multiple searches. I was hoping for a post from the former poster who said she visited when it was a private house. I will try my french again using the instructions from tekwriter. If anyone does find the actual address, please, please let me know. I actually am losing sleep over this one. Cigalechanta would you please give me the address since you seem to be familiar with it. I guess the owner does not give out the address until you actually pay for the room. I did so, but now can't get an address.

WillTravel Jan 6th, 2007 12:18 PM

Did you pay through PayPal, like in the review?

tuscanlifeedit Jan 6th, 2007 12:22 PM

No, jody, I think it's odd too. But odder still is that lippincottfarm hasn't yet been given the address.

LF: I would lose sleep, too. In fact, I think I might want to cancel and rebook somewhere else. Sorry to say that, but I like to have ALL my ducks in order, and I'm not comfortable with adventures in sleeping accomodations.

Did you read the TA review? Since this place isnt cheap, I wonder if you could not find another place that you might like as well, without the vagueries?

cigalechanta Jan 6th, 2007 12:28 PM

All I know is that the Nicolas Flamel House is at number 51 rue de Montmorency and that it's a fw numbers away

I believe the address is 39 rue de Montmorency 75003.
Hope this works out for you, the area is great.

WillTravel Jan 6th, 2007 01:30 PM

Is there an architect's office in the same building? I Googled "39 rue de Montmorency" and got this:

jody Jan 6th, 2007 02:37 PM

In white pages of Pages Jaune #39 is listed to an Yann- Gabriel whatever his last name ws so that must be it

cigalechanta Jan 6th, 2007 02:45 PM

Yann is the owner! BINGO!!!

lippincottfarm Jan 6th, 2007 07:51 PM

I knew you guys would find it for me. Thank you. I had a dinner party tonight, and the entire time I was thinking, what else can I do - I am going to arrive in Paris with jet lag and do not know where to go to find a place to lay my head. Thank you, thank you. I can sleep tonight.

lippincottfarm Jan 6th, 2007 08:01 PM

Oh, I promise to post a detailed description of my stay. Again, I can sleep tonight. Thanks.

WillTravel Jan 6th, 2007 08:06 PM

Not to add worry, but with such a small B&B, do you have arrangements for a staff member to be there to meet you? I'm sorry you have been treated this way - I hope the place is as good as advertised in all the articles about it.

averyjade Jan 7th, 2007 05:10 AM

Just to let you know, I posted re Marais House on your other thread.

norween Jan 7th, 2007 05:41 AM

It looks a bit fishy to me : no address, no regstration number, no french version of the website....
Looks a bit like someone wants to hide someting (from the tax inspection perhaps? or the security regulations ?)
