Marais Hotel ($100-120 US)

Hello, any suggestions. Staying in Paris for only two nights in early October. Have tried a few suggestions but appear all booked. Priceline? but a bit scared.

Early October is very busy and you will probably not be successful with Priceline at that budget. See www.biddingfortravel.com and you will see that people are having difficulty for that time period. You'd be wise to book something right now. Maybe try laterooms.com or lastminutetravel.com.

Try Eurocheapo.com . Priceline will not get you a hotel in the Marais.

Also try:

I often stay at the Grand Hotel Francais, which is just outside of Le Marais on Boulevard Voltaire. The rooms aren't large, but it's well-kept and the staff is very helpful. The neighborhood has boulangeries, grocery stores, places to eat, have a drink, grab a coffee, etc., but it is not really a "tourist" neighborhood. Metro connections from Place de la Nation are superb.

Have a great time in Paris!

I agree with all of the above. I don't think Priceline even has hotels in that area (I've never heard of one, but I don't use it).

It is a problem in that there are not a lot of great hotels in the Marais, which is a small area, at that price level. eurocheapo is a good idea -- I think Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc and maybe Grand Hotel Malher might be a couple of the decent one in that range.

Not exactly considered the Marais, but I've stayed at the Lyon-Mulhouse in the Republique...and I know it was a VERY easy walk to Place de Vosges...so it must be on the edge of the arrondissments. We had a nice large room, a nice bath, the people were friendly, and there was an elevator.
I think breakfast was free, such as it was - coffee, tea, juice and rolls. And its on a major street, Beaumarchais? But it got very quiet through the night time...in 2002 it was 70e's for the double. Go out the door, turn right a couple of blocks and right again, and there was a terrific little family run restaurant called Le Capricorn...pretty darned good indeed!

Caron de Beaumarchis is in the Marais. We have stayed there many times. Rooms are smalll but hotel has character and terrific service. The proprietors, the Bigeards, pere et fils, are great. Good location.

Rate may be a tad more than your budget but at this late date, if they have a room, pounce.

the grand turenne on the rue du turenne is not bad. some rooms are much better than others - try for a room in the back of the hotel on a high floor. Also try parishotels.com - they list about 20 hotels in the Marais.

hi, i've stayed at the hotel malher. it's a small hotel in the marais, very clean and reasonable. i think it was around E$120 for a double. very close to the st. paul metro and walking distance to lots of sites. their e-mail is: [email protected]
the proprieter and staff speak english too.

I think I've read that the Hotel Beaumarchais is also a good value around that price range, but it's in the Oberkampf area. that's not too far way, but I might check around Bastille as a second alternative as there are some cheap hotels around there, also (like Hotel Daval)--and that is closer to the Marrais.

Caron de Beaumarchais is a nice hotel, I was thinking of staying there this summer, but their std rates are a lot higher than this budget (137-152 euro or about US$165-180). They do have one inferior room on the ground floor for about $145, though. I think the 3* Hotel Bretonnerie is cheaper than that and in October one doesn't need to worry about AC.

There is also the Hotel Beaubourg which isn't as nice as the Axial Beaubourg, but cheaper (around 110 euro).

I think the chance of getting a very popular hotel like Bretonnerie or Caron de Beaumarchais are zip, however.

Maybe you can have a look to the Hotel Saintonge Marais...It's in the 3rd and in your prices...It's a 3 star hotel and it is really inside the Marais...You can look at this hotel on: www.hotel-saintonge.com!
