Map with Cab Stands in Rome
I have finally found a map showing where cab stands are located in Rome. However, it only lists about four. Surely there are more than that? Does anyone know where to find a map online that would show where ALL the cab stands in Rome are?

That's one of the cons of staying in an apartment, Statia. You can't get the front desk to call you a taxi ( and with your mother's situation, you would need it). However, you can get a celular phone and try to call a taxi yourself ( which won't be easy either, as I assume you're not fluent in Italian).
Anyway, here's a map ( I hope the url is not too long..) with quite a few taxi stands in Rome. http://roma.tuttocitta.it/portaliloc...pe=2&z=4.0 |

Thanks so much for the link, Ceci. I will check it out.
You make a very good point in a hotel vs. apartment. However, I'm so used to staying in apartments when traveling now that it's hard to fathom staying in a hotel for six nights. The "at home" feel of an apartment is just so much more comfortable. It's something to take into consideration, though. Thanks. :) |
Hi Statia, that is a good map, but I know there are more stands than the ones on that map.
Will you have a cell phone with you? |
Yes, SeaUrchin, I plan to bring my cell and get a TIM card over there. However, in talking with my DH tonight, we have had a new thought of just renting a wheelchair while there and being done with it. No need for public transport, just wheel Mom everywhere we need to go. I'm going to post a new thread with the logistics of that question.

We waved cabs down when we were there recently and they picked us up three times. The locals told us to call for cabs on our cell but we didn't have one along.

Statia,
I found that Radio Cab always has someone who speaks English. I used them this year to call from our apt. and I don't speak Italian. If I called around 10:00 I had problems getting cabs - don't understand why. However, earlier was much better - 8:30 to 9:00. They show up right away so be ready when you call. I don't have their number handy but I noticed their stickers are plasters to just about every pay phone on the street so you can look there for it if you can't find it ahead. If your mother has problems walking or standing it's much better to call from your apt than to hail a cab since you might have a longish wait before one stops. |
Just so you know - it is more expensive to call for a cab to pick you up than to go to a cab stand.

wliwl, yes, I have read that the cab fares start from the phone call when you call for one, vs. catching one at a cab stand. However, I'm willing to pay that extra if it means less hassle.
adreienne, thanks for the info. I will look into that. |
