Mannlichen - Kleine Scheidegg
 

Hi friends

I'll be staying in Murrenn for 4 days in the last week of May. (May 26 - May 29). Can u
please let me know if the wengen - Mannlichen
lift will be open during this time ? If not,
is there any other way to get to Mannlichen.

I'm interested in doing the Mannlichen Kleine Scheidegg hike. Please let me know.

If you're staying in a hotel in Murren, ask them your questions.

You can also get to Mannlichen from Grindelwald via another lift--a very long ride and quite scenic.

Well, there are other ways to find the schedule of the Grindelwald - Männlichen Goldelbahn and the Wengen - Männlichen Luftseilbahn, like a Google search.

According to the GGM/LWM website, the summer schedule for the Wengen-Männlichen cable car begins on May 27.

The summer schedule for the gondola starts on June 2.

Based on that information, regularly scheduled service between Wengen and the crest of the ridge starts on May 27. The car departs every 15 minutes from 8:00. The last return trip is at 17:30.

There is, however, a major caveat to the schedule. On May 25 and 26, there is a possibility that the line will be operating depending on the weather and hiking conditions on the crest of the ridge.

At any time, however, strong winds can cause the service to be stopped. In fact, I have been on those cars when the operator shut the line down before we got to the end station. We just dangled there, swaying in the breeze while the operator inched us down to one of the cable masts. Two reasons for that:
less oscillation of the cabin and, if the wind did not subside, we would have been forced to escape by climbing down the mast ladder.


Given the early date that you will be there, the trail from the Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg may well be snow covered. Some of the trail is well sheltered from the sun and snow can linger there.

I have never been in Lauterbrunnen that early in the season, so I cannot give a first hand account of what you might expect. Of course snow conditions vary from year to year.
