Maneuvering in Milan?
I need suggestions for my 'blitz tour' of Milan.
We will be landing at Malpensa( at 7:55a) and will take the express to Cardona station and then doing a 3 hr tour( per Rick Steves) of the highlights of Milan before catching a train to Venice. I'm stumped about how to get from one station to the other. Since our luggage will be checked at Cardona and we need to get to central station, is the best way by taxi? Is it still possible to check bags at Cardona station? Milan is not on our itinerary for this trip but since we will be there I just can't imagine not taking the time to at least see The Last Supper and the Duomo. Any ideas/suggestions will really be appreciated. Thanks! |
The quickest and cheapest way to get from Cadorna to Centrale is on the metro, see http://www.beginningwithi.com/italy/...ilanmetro.html for tips on using it.
I'm not sure there's a place to check bags (deposito bagagli) at Cadorna, but there is at Centrale. Keep in mind that it's best to reserve in advance for the Last Supper, information on that is available at http://www.cenacolovinciano.it/html/eng/home.htm best regards, Deirdré Straughan beginningwithi.com |
Deirdre,
Thanks for the info and for the metro link. |
We took a bus from Malpensa to Centrale station; if I remember correctly, maybe 45 mins. On that trip we caught the train for Venice, but another trip staying in Milan, before our departure back to the States, it was only a short metro ride from Centrale to our hotel in central Milan.

I think I'd follow on from toni_g_b's comment. Take the Malpensa Express bus to Centrale, leave your luggage, and buy your tickets to Venice if not already purchased. Take a taxi to the Last Supper (assuming you can get a reservation at an appropriate time), and then walk/taxi/Metro to the other sights. I don't know what's included in the Rick Steves tour, but three hours is not a lot of time. Pace yourselves accordingly. You won't have time for lunch, so pick up something in the Centrale station to eat on the train.
