Mandel Schnitzel?
 

Hi all,<BR> I recently ate this wonder German restaurant and had a dish called Mandel Schnitzel. It was breaded chicken with toated almonds on top with some kind sauce on top. It was out of this world! I am looking for a recipe for this dish. Can anyone help me? Thanks..

Mandel is usually a bread, schnitzel is usually a sausage, so this might be a name they made up for their dish.

Well, I quite disagree with "mom" - - and I even wonder if it was really chicken! It could have been - - schnitzel simply means "cutlet" or "scallops" (also spelled escalopes) - - as in Veal scalloppini - - not the seafood. Most of the time a schnitzel in Germany is pork or veal, though in theory you could have a chicken schnitzel. I have never heard of schnitzel referring to a sausage.<BR><BR>And there may be "Mandel" breads - - but the word is German for almond.<BR><BR>Regrettably, there is nothing classic about this name to give a clue what the sauce might have been. I'm guessing that the sauce may have been what was so memorable for you. I'd also submit that you can do any kind of breaded cutlet, come up with a sauce you like, and top it with toasted almonds - - and it will be very good!<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

The menu from a German restaurant in my local area says it is served with a "honey strawberry gin sauce". Not sure if that is the original/classic way to serve it buts that's how they do it here and what I plan to have for lunch next weekend!

This thread is 10 years old and not really helpful since there is no information on the restaurants.
