Manchester to London
Hello, This is another branch of my earlier questions of things to do in London and Manchester.
In small town outside of Manchester, we are staying in a home that is in a house exchange with me. After that, we are off to London and have just secured rooms at a B&B on Embankment near Pimlico - lovely rooms, great location and a hearty breakfast! So, big first question is how to get from Euston Station (train from Manchester) to the B&B. Is there a tube line that will take us from Euston to Pimilco? We will each have luggage, so am in need of a line that has either an elevator or escalator at both Euston and whatever is the closest stop to Pimlico - I do not mind taking a taxi from the destination stop to Embankment at Grosvenor to get to B & B or the owner has suggested that she would pick us up when we get there (Pimlico, that is!) Last time in London, I bought an Oyster card for the tube and that was a good thing to have - is it still in existence?? Thanks so much! |
A second's glimpse at a tube map would show you that there's a Pimlico station, on a direct line from Euston. This may or may not be your station (people promoting hotels have a more elastic definition of boundaries than other Londoners), but if you input the B&B's postcode into the TfL journey planner, it'll tell you the best way to get there.
Your Oyster question is also answered on the TfL site. It's impossible to survive in London without being familiar with what our transport system offers. Telling you to find these answers for yourself, the way 10 million of us (including a few million who don't have English as their first language) have done, is in your interest. What's s "Grosvenor"? |
Agree to take a look at www.tfl.gov.uk for your transport questions and maps.
What station is closest to your b&b? |
Pimlico station has escalators - but also quite a few steps. IMO one really shouldn't have more luggage than one can carry.
|
If you mean Grosvenor Road where it meets Embankment - that is quite a hike from Pimlico Station. In fact Sloane Square is probably a bit nearer - and Victoria is also probably just a bit closer than Pimlico station is. Where specifically is the B&B?
You will have some steps/long walks no matter which station(s) you use. |
As soon as I hit submit I saw that Pimlico was on the line from Euston. I can carry my own bag, but I cannot carry it up lots of steps - a bit of a handicap as I have aged - that is why I asked if there were escalators or lifts.
Grosvenor is the name of the street on Embankment where the B&B is located, right after Millbank - at least that is what is on my map. Many thanks for the www.tfl.gov.uk site - I will use it faithfully! I shall also study the tube map - sorry to have annoyed you, flanneruk! |
Don't worry. Christ, Buddha and Mandela would annoy Flanner.
|
what is the full street name -- and what is the post code if you know it?
Grosvenor Road meets a street that is called Embankment at Chelsea Bridge. Millbank is the name of an entirely different street that does meet Grosvenor Road not far from Pimlico tube station. But Embankment is not there. (There are probably at least 80+ "Grosvenor" somethings -- Road, Avenue, Gardens, Square, Court, etc) No matter - neither Pimlico nor Victoria are step-free tube stations |
Thanks, janisj for telling me that there are steps at both Pimlico and Victoria!
Yes, it is Grosvenor Road and now I have found that the B&B is just behind it between Vauxhaul Bridge and Chelsea Bridge! All set now! Thanks again! |
>>it between Vauxhaul Bridge and Chelsea Bridge! <<
That is a fair distance - Pimlico is probably the nearest station. If it is in St George's Square for instance it is just a couple of blocks. But if it is closer to the Chelsea Bridge end of Grosvenor Rd/Chruchill Gardens area, it will be a hike from the station. |
