2 weeks in Scotland - May 2016

Hi there,
My husband and I are flying in and out of Edinburgh in May and are taking a a train trip through the Western Highlands (5 days). Wondering how to maximize the trip.
Thank you.

I took a multiple day tour with Rabbies Trail Burners out of Edinburgh and would recommend them highly.

We are primarily interested in history and local culture. We are seniors so walking is better than hiking. I assume we will need to rent a car to travel the countryside. May is best for our schedule and we definitely want to avoid the travelers of summer.
Thanks

Before we can help you, we need to know more about your train trip and where it is taking you. Are you spending five days travelling round Scotland by train? Is this a prebooked tour or is it a DIY one?

May is a good time to choose. May is traditionally one of the drier months, although with the vagarities of the present climate, that can't be guaranteed. You have long days and the wild flowers should be coming nto bloom. It is also a bit early for the midges too - a definite bonus!

Hi,
We will be on the Royal Scotsman for 6 days, 5 nights passing through or visiting Isle of Bute, Wemyss Bay, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen Dalwhipple, Inverness, Mallaigh. We will plan an extra couple of days for Edinburgh.
We would like to begin our vacation a week earlier seeing Glasgow, etc. Wondering what that week should look like.
Thank you

Click on my ID for a trip report on Glasgow which will tell you about The Kelvingrove, Botanic Gardens, Oran Mor theatre, waterfront and eateries. I would link it for you but this mobile version of Fodors doesn't seem to want to let me...

Please can I have photos of Dalwhipple? (Bad Sheila. I know that was autocorrect!)

Marti, if you click on my name you'll see a thread I contributed to in the autumn with masses of stuff on Edinburgh.

Where do they let you off the train for more than 20 minutes?

What does "Glasgow etc" mean?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking us.... Are you wanting information about places the train is stopping at including places to eat? If so we need to know how long you have in each place. Is it possible to give us a more detailed itinerary?
