Give me some reasons to visit Malta in April of next year...... I know almost nothing about the place.

History, history, history and ruins. Good food, cafes on the water for people-watching, interesting towns to wander thru including the island of Gozo. Now this I only know from reading about Malta for a year! Was going last March but was cancelled so going in April. I have been wanting to visit Malta for several years and now have the chance. Check out Malta on the Internet, i.e., visitmalta.com and many others. I also sent away for info from the Malta Tourist Bureau. Is it true that Malta has very lenient immigration laws? I have heard that it is very easy to establish residency there, allowing you to apply for dual citizenship and obtain a Malta passport. Does anyone know anything about this?

Don't want to become a citizen just visit the place, enjoy some culture and history.

Well, you never know Marko! Once you get there, you may love all that history and culture so much that you decide you want to stay on - LOL

I found Malta fascinating. I enjoyed touring several of the small towns and loved staying right in the old city of Valetta at the Castille Hotel. We liked riding the funny old 1950's decorated busses all over the islands, had a great day on a big sailboat, snorkeling and swimming in bays off its stern.

The only negative I've heard from some people is that it is so "ugly". That is true if you're not into dry, sparse, rocky climates. There is minimal vegetation on Malta and it is certainly not very green. That didn't bother me, but it does bother some -- just like it bothers some in the Greek isles.

We went to Malta on a short break this summer and loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat! Stayed in Sliema and loved the fading elegance of the buildings, the Victorian-style promenades, not to mention the wonderful snorkelling in sparkling turquoise waters (oh, and - shame on me - I loved all the British high-street shops!!)
It's true the landscape is sparse and rocky, but Gozo is supposedly greener (and has better beaches) - one idea might be to spend time on both the main island and Gozo...

Hi Marko,

I'm booked for Malta in April and I can't wait to go. I've been thinking about it for several years and based on the favorable Malta threads on this board and people I've spoken to who have been there it seems like an ideal place to vacation.

Besides Nancy (posting above) there was one other person who said she was going to Malta in April. We should have a get together. Let us know if you decide to go and maybe we can meet.

I am curious - why are you thinking of going to Malta if you're reluctant and need pursuading?

I'd agree that if you're going to be there long enough to spend a couple nights on Gozo. Our day trip there went bust. The busses were behind schedule, we pulled into the ferry landing just as it took off so had to wait an hour or more to get over to Gozo, the busses there stopped running for lunch. The bottom line is we didn't get to do much of anything there.

Adrienne, it is as a possible replacement for a trip to Turkey I was planning, Malta was suggested and I just wanted to find out a bit more. As per usual great help from this site

Malta is worth a visit but I would only give it a moderate recommendation.It is a very small island plus another even smaller one (Gozo) beside it so a few days is enough for many.It has some decent historical buildings but not on the scale of at least a dozen cities in nearby Italy.It helps that the people speak English but if you are going in April it will not be like summer.

My husband and I were just reminsicing today about our trip to Malta this summer. We spent two weeks there exploring Malta and Gozo and loved it. We had heard mixed reviews - people warning us about the arid landscape and oddly developed towns, but it still turned out to be one of the best trips ever for us.
The people of Malta are fantastically friendly, the historic sites are outstanding, prices are affordable and Malta still has an unspoiled feel for a European destination. Oh, and the scuba diving is great if you are interested in the sport. In short, I loved it, and recommend that you go.

I am from malta and have gone back yearrly. malta is geaourgouse, the water is beautiful and the history is magnificent. But if your lookign for lush tropical greens you will nto find it there. The summers are beyond hot always over 100. April is a beautiful timne to go. I would definatly recomend staying in Gozo over a weekend if you are into going out Dancing. Otherwise midweek would work, the night time in Gozo is great nothing like sitting at a bar on the beach listening to the waves crash with a great glass of wine or cocktail. Enjoy

I would definitely spend half of the available days on Gozo. Its a world apart - a place back in time.
