Malta Traffic
 

I will be leaving Malta on a Sunday, 6:40am flight. In normal traffic I would expect to take a taxi around 4 or 4:30am. Given the traffic situation that I read about in Malta is this still a reasonable assumption?

Only been on Malta once for a very short visit (two nights), I'm no expert, but I can't imagine there would be any traffic issues at 04:00. In my (brief) experience the traffic was worst during normal commute hours like anywhere else.

The airport is very near Valletta, maybe 15 minutes, assuming that's where you'll be. I suggest you first find out what time your airline desk opens so you don't get up earlier than you need to. I'm quite sure traffic won't be a problem that early.

The island is tiny but it would depend on where you are staying. I'd just check with the hotel the day before. I'm with the others, I can't imagine traffic delays at that time of the morning on a Sunday.

I've done the trip on the X3 bus from Bugibba at 0500 in the morning, and the traffic was very busy. It was mainly commercial traffic possibly coming from or going to the Commercial Port.

The main routes, not that there are many, get very busy during the day. So it makes sense, particularly for commercial traffic to move around when it should be quiet. There might even be a Law stating that they have to.

Malta is a funny old place, but to see that you really need to dig a little below the surface.
