Malta to Catania

I am trying to find a boat/ferry to Catania. We are leaving Malta June 24 and would like to go directly to Catania. Our research has found nothing that allows that to happen w/o going to Pozzallo first and then taking a bus to Catania. Does anyone have other ideas? I would prefer to fly but my husband is set on the ferry/boat thing….

There is only the expensive Virtu fast ferry to Pozzallo, with direct bus connection to Catania. Pozzallo - Catania can also be done by train, with stops at the gems of Noto and Siracusa.
Flights are usually cheaper than the fast ferry (no outside deck) solution, above all those to Trapani.
