MALTA-beaches, sightseeing, hotels
 

Looking to go to Europe in July of '07 and had the idea to go to Malta. How is it that time of year? We're going for about 8-9 days. Is it even a good choice of a place to go in July? Any recomendations about sightseeing and hotels?

Very hot.

PLaces not to miss seeing include Mdina, the old capital; Valletta; the ancient ruins at Tarxien; a daytrip over to Gozo.

It's a while since I've been , so I won't recommend a hotel, but I'd suggest staying somewhere like Mellieha in the north, a little way away from the most touristy areas (and better for getting over to Gozo).

We loved staying in Valletta, we had a Grand Harbour view which was wonderful. There are a few hotels with this view as well as the small apartment where we stayed.

If you want to stay near Valletta but want to have access to a pool or the sea for swimming, you could stay in Sliema which is full of hotels. We didn't think much of the area as it's quite new with none of the charm and history of Valletta but it's only about 10 mins by ferry from Valletta or 15 mins by bus.

Gozo is also great, quieter than Malta but with some nice towns. The hotel we stayed was great with a nice pool which would be good in July.

Late July the children are on holiday so rooms fill up and prices go up. Early July if you can make it.


Weather is comfortably hot. Much of the island is connected by cheap buses and most people stay outside of the capital Valetta. At St Ppaul's bay, St Julian, Silema, etc. Look on the internet for hotels.


Not much in the way of beaches on Malta. A few small ones here and there, up north and on the west side.

Don't miss the museum in Mdina and the other one nearby with Roman mosaic floors, etc in. Or the great mosaic floor of the cathedral in Valetta (St Johns?). Sunday morning market just outside Valetta walls. You can get a bus to Gozo ferry (north) and from the other side, a bus to Victoria (the capital. Much of it closes midday - 2pm. A museum by the church there. There is also a "Popeye" village where they made the film in the 1980's.

Malta in July is very hot as temperature. But,July is the peek of village feasts.Every weekend,there's a feast or maybe even 2 feast in a vliiage or other.I also suggest Valletta the capital, Limestone Heritage in Siggiewi, Marsaxlokk the fishing village, Mdina, the old silent city,Mosta, the 3rd in line in europe for it's dome.Also, a trip to Gozo is recommended as well. Alot of sandy beaches and if you like scuba,I recomand this too.But above all, Maltese are very friendly so sure that you will like it.I welcome you to Malta.
