Options haven't changed much in past couple years, so I'll refer to another post with discussion of most often cited accommadations.

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2&tid=1325064&numresponses=23&s tart=50&searchText=malpensa

If you want to stay by the airport, your choices are:
Villa Malpensa
Hotel Cervo

The Villa is more costly; Cervo is reasonably priced, however very simple/basic place. Depending on how early your flight departs, may still be feasible to stay in city of Milan and take the shuttle bus in the a.m. to MXP. Shuttle takes about 50 minutes; I'm not sure what time it starts running in the morning.
Do a search on this forum for "malpensa", and you will find that your choices are not abundant, and among those choices, you may not think that any are reasonably priced.

It might be worthwhile to tell more about where you are in the days prior to your departing flight from Malpensa. This information could influence the advice you get on creative solutions to where you should stay the night before an early morning Malpensa flight.

It needs to be factored in, cost and planning-wise to any trip that ends with an early morning Malpensa departing flight.

Best wishes,

Rex
It may be more than you want to pay but Villa Castiglioni is 25km from Malpensa in Varese. We figured that our last night shouldn't be spent listening to airport noises but it's close enough for an early flight. Check it out:
http://www.hotelvillacastiglioni.it/...ne_inglese.htm

We just stayed at Hotel Villa Malpensa in May and it was delightful. If it fits your budget, I highly recommend both the hotel and its restaurant. Charming bar too. We were afraid we'd hear airplanes all night, but, in fact, didn't hear any. Yet our drive from hotel to airport gate was about two minutes. Couldn't have been more relaxing or convenient. If you don't have a rental car to turn in, you can take advantage of the free shuttle service to the airport. Buon Viaggio.

A follow up Q.we are reaching Milan late night by train from Florence and are flying out from Malpensa. How do I get from station to Cervo hotel?
thx

Tina Aug 21st, 2002 11:38 AM

First, check with the Cervo hotel to ask them how late they'll pick up from the airport. And depending upon how late you are and how late they pick up, you may be able to have them come get you at Malpensa. You'll need to take one of the shuttle buses that depart just outside Milano Centrale station to the airport. Trip takes ~ 50 minutes. Then once you get to the airport, you can call Hotel Cervo & they'll come get you (nominal charge of few dollars). If you're too late for them, then once you get to MXP, take a taxi. The hotel is a 5-minute ride from airport terminals.
