Malpensa Express
I've been doing some research on the best way to get from the airport to my hotel in Milan. Two different sites gave 90 or 95 Euro for a taxi. I need to find a more affordable way! There is a bus for only 8 Euro which takes you to Milano Centrale Train Station, which is a good distance from my hotel on Corso Magenta right by The Last Supper. A site that estimated taxi costs looks like it would be around 12 Euro, but I realize that could be much more if traffic is bad. The Malpensa Express (prices for that differ depending on website from 11-14 Euro), on the other hand, goes to the Cadorna Metro stop as well as the train station. Cadorna is much closer to my hotel.
My question is about accessibility for the Express. How many stairs can I expect to encounter, at both ends? (I'll be in Terminal 1 of the airport.) It's not that I can't do any steps, but am hoping for not too many. :) Thanks. |
The Terminal one has an escalator which goes down to the train platforms from the ticketing area. Have no idea about Cadorna

I don't recall steps at Cadorna except to transfer from train platforms to metro platforms. I'm pretty sure the Malpensa Express has level boarding (no steps from platform).

Terminal One has a moving incline downward to the platforms as indicated above; Cadorna has the usual train platforms ans I believe you can walk to the street from those without any steps involved at all. Do you know how far your hotel is from the Conciliazione Metro stop? Cadorna is on the same line. Put your hotel address into Googlemaps. com and you can see all of these features

Thanks to all. Just the kind of info I was looking for.
Dukey, the Conziliazione looks to be just a bit closer to my hotel, but does the Express go there? I had the impression that it went the other way towards the train station. Thanks. |
SusanP, the train ends at Cadorna. My point is that if your hotel is close to the Metro stop you could take the Metro between the two since Cadorna has a Metro stop of its own. Just make sure you get the correct MXP express.

Use the official sites!
All these different prices you write about (90 or 95; 11 to 14) show that you are trusting in third party sites that provide outdated information.
It seems to me you also need a map of Milan subway network: Attachment 2672 All these sites should be linked in your travel guide. |
Duckey, thanks. I realized after I posted that I thought there were two different trains, one to Cadorna and one to the train station.
Falcio, I thought Iooked at the official site for the Malpensa Express, but apparently not. 😀 I was planning to buy the ticket there. It appears I can do that. My Streetwise Map shows the metro stops, although I probably won't use it much once I'm there. Thanks. |
