mallorca or san sebastian in august
 

my husband and i are going to for 4 nights to either mallorca or san sebastin we are looking for alot of relaxation and alittle sightseeing any recommendations?

What's your tolerance for heat and how important is food to you?

havding been to both, admittedly qutie along time ago, I'd pick San sebastian every time. the nicest part of Mallorca is quite a drive from the airport and in august the island will be swarming with british and germans. san sebastian has avoided the perils of mass tourism and is mainly visited by spaniards. it's a beautiful area with loads to see and do, and being north-facing, you have a chance that the weather won't be too hot. and it is a foodie mecca. what more do you want?

so im guessing that mallorca will be very hot and san sebastian has great food? we want to relax by the water and do some outdoor stuff enjoy the life! only have four nights because we will be in barcelona before

Of course San Sebastian has great food. Haven't you ever heard of Arzak and Martin Berasategui?

i dont know anything about san sebastian or mallorca. what are the differences between the two?

There are few similarities. Mallorca, the main island in the Baleares, is one of the most heavily visited locations in Spain, more tourist than the Costa del Sol. And August is one of its busiest months, with hordes of foreign tourist descending upon the island. It's beautiful, but crowded, a much nicer destination off-season.

San Sebastian-Donostia, the historic seaside Basque resort known for its three beautiful beaches, tends to be a little more laid back and relaxed throughout the year, even during its major jazz festival in July and International Film Festival in September. August is busy, the beaches crowded, but nothing like you would experience on Mallorca. It is a small city filled with some of the world's best restaurants. The greatest concentration of Michelin stared restaurants in the world can be found between the País Vasco, the Pays Basque and Navarra. San Sebastian is also very Basque and welcoming.

thx for the info! do u think i should stay in san sebastian for 4 nights or go to other areas? is it worth doing day trips or is there plenty to do there?

I agree with Robert download Maribel's guide fora FULL explanation about things to do and see in SS.
I know others have added what they think are the differences, i will add "chalk and cheese". The cheese in this case also comes with a good red.

And make that cheese Idiazábal! ;)
