Malaga Stay Plaza Malagueta or Pedregalejo

Have been reading a lot on the Malaga forums. Just need advise on where to stay for first time with kids and no car.
Thinking of apartment at Calle Arenal which is next to Malagueta beach or at Pedregalejo.
We would like to also go sightseeing in the city centre and also outside Malaga.
Any feedback will be great.

Pedregalejo is very popular with locals for the nice beaches and lots of great seafront restaurants, but it will be a 10 min bus ride to the cneter of town (bus n. 11, runs all the time).

Calle Arenal is in an excellent location, close to the Malagueta beach and a 5-10 mins walk through the beautiful Paseo del Parque into the very heart of the city around pedestrian Calle Larios, the Cathedral, Plaza de la Constitución etc. Here you'll find lots of great cafés, terraces, tapas bars, reataurants, shopping etc etc. If you want to have the vibrant center easy at hand, I would suggest you go for the Calle Arenal apt.

But be sure to visit Pedergalejo during you stay, as said, only a few minutes with the n.11 bus and great seaside restaurants, nice beaches etc.

You should surely trust Kimhe's advice but I will offer my own experience.

We visited Malaga one December with kids and extended family so it was not beach season (not sure when you are going) but I didn't find the beach and area by the beach to be so appealing in Malaga. Was it just me? I would choose to stay more in the center where people were everywhere, even Christmas Eve/Day milling around with families and enjoying a coffee or tapas. We stayed up by the Plaza Constitución and enjoyed that very much. It was easy to walk to 'everywhere'. To get a feel for the bigger city we took a short bus tour (picks up right by the Cathedral) which took us on some windy roads in the hills for a great view of the city and sea.

Thanks again for the responses. It was very hard deciding where to stay and went thru a lot of reviews of places. We are going this summer. I thought that with my kids (tweens), they'll like it better unwinding by the beach than sightseeing. I'll prob do this by myself while they're learning Spanish!
