Malaga in late May
We are spending three nights in Malaga to view that city and use as a point to make day trips to surrounding areas in Andalusia
Would you have a recommendation for an area or place to stay? |
Malaga is gorgeous! You will thoroughly enjoy this beautiful warm vibrant Andalucian city. I agree that Malaga is gorgeous! There is so much to see and do there. We spent 2 nights there and could have used a 3rd night. We stayed at the Soho Malaga, located in the Barrio Soho, and very close to the pedestrianized calle Marques de Larios. It's a small boutique hotel (28 rooms). They have a safe place to store luggage if you arrive early. We walked to everything from here, including the cathedral, Alcazaba, Castillo, Picasso Museum and the port. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, including the Ataranzas Market.

We had a car and stayed at the Parador de Malaga Golf before arriving to Malaga center. It was a perfect base for our day trips to Mijas, Ojen, Marbella, Antequera... Malaga stole our hearts... it does not happen too often when you find a city where everything is perfect. The best food, phenomenal flamenco, breathtaking architecture, both old and new, gracefully blend together in the most harmonious ensemble, vibrant colorful market, shopping to die for, welcoming helpful people, and great weather even in November. And the Port, and the views from the old walls of the Alcazaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro...and the beaches.... Everything was perfect. |

I agree with everything vinonobile987 said about Malaga. You will find plenty to do. We spent almost a whole day slowly walking uphill to the top of the Alcazaba and then to Castillo de Gibralfaro. There are breathtaking views of the port and the harbor along the way. The Alcazaba is especially beautiful, with ruins, lush greenery, flowers, small patios, fountains, etc. We did have lunch one day at the Ataranzas Market. I didn't write down names of the other restaurants. We enjoyed walking along the seaside promenade, and we had drinks at a cafe overlooking the harbor while watching the sunset. We were with friends who weren't interested in seeing the Alcazaba and Castillo, so they spent more time along the waterfront and took a ride on the ferris wheel, and enjoyed a delicious lunch on the beach. So they had a great day, too! So, with your day trips, you will be busy. |
Oh, you will be spoiled for choice with restaurant selection in Malaga. Here are the ones we went to and enjoyed all of them: 1. Dinner at the Indian/Mexican restaurant called “Amigos Grill Malaga Center”. We loved our Indian meal, but not the Mexican one. I have been to India three times, so I am very picky with Indian food. This restaurant had really good Indian dishes. 2. Lunch at “La Cueva de 1900” (we were attracted by the variety of jamon iberico). We ordered pate with pineapple jam (excellent!) and aubergine with light tomato sauce. Very nice lunch. 3. Seafood dinner at dinner at the “Loz Mellizos” - good mixed paella and salad was way too much food to digest. The portions are huge... 4. Really nice place for breakfast, Lepanto worked perfect for us: delicious salmon sandwiches and heavenly pastries was exactly our idea of a lovely breakfast. Enjoy! |
