Re flamenco in Málaga:

While not always known for originating flamenco plaos (forms) as Jerez, Malaga hold a place of honor in the flamenco community. Many artists have come from there and there are many interpretations that have been well known in the style of Málaga..

I looked for a website specifically in english
http://flamencoenmalaga.es/

and
Great videos in 3 parts...

I tried to post something Sunday, but it 'fell thru the cracks.'

At Malaga's East end, on the Mediterranean side, there was a restaurant that served Sardinas fritas that were to die for. They specialize in Mariscos, so it's likely that they can 'whip you up' a Paella.

It's Casa Paco, I believe: meals are served on wooden tables with wooden benches.
I've never eaten Paella there but I love their deep fried Sardines.

At Malaga's east end every restaurant specialize in mariscos and serve sardines. You can find sardines today, but they are old, big and may come from very far away. Local sardine season is over.
I do not know and been unable to locate this casa Paco. There is a casa Pedro, but not with wooden benches etc. There used to be a Paco's cabin (wooden) in Torremolinos. Maybe if you can give more details?

I am upset about the big old sardines.
I would like to have some sardines too

What is the weather there today?

Lifeofmytime,
here are some more references for Málaga flamenco this time courtesy of our friend Fodorite Kimhe:

1. Peña Juan Breve (flamenco social club) Since you are there I would call & ask about any performances or events.

I hope its drying up - I'm there Friday but its forecast to be unsettled until then.

lifeofmytime Sep 29th, 2009 08:26 AM

Thanks again everyone for all the help! My flight leaves late tonight and I can't wait!

Oh, and stevelyon - it looks like the rain is supposed to end on Wednesday night, and the weather looks pretty good for the next few days following. I think we'll be fine!

something you must know is that the weather forecast for Malaga is usually wrong, as it states the weather in the province but not in the coastal Malaga strip, which has its own weather, and which is very similar to forecast of Melilla. Today was cloudy this morning and sunny all afternoon and evening, starry night, warm, I am in shorts, polo shirt and flip-flops (chanclas).

hi lifeofmytime

We were in Andalucia a few years ago, visiting Granada, Seville and Cordoba. At the end of the trip two days had been added to allow us to rest. Our TA had decided we would enjoy Malaga and she was right. We loved every minute of our visit.

This is a great city, few tourists, terrific shops, and lots to explore in its old town including some of the best restaurants we ate at during our whole trip. Oh, it has a great beach too.

It's safe to say that much as we very much enjoyed 'the three towns', Malaga was the biggest surprise and we wish we had spent longer there.

I hope you have a great time and a safe trip.

Joe

It is funny, the forecast says partially cloudy and it is sunny, a bit hazy. It rained mildly right before dawn.

Sorry, my referral is from several (5-7) years ago! That's why I wrote 'there was a restaurant' when describing it. We were referred by wife's uncle in Madrid. It may have been Casa Pepe; but there's a famous Casa Pepe in Torremolinos and I didn't want to further confuse the issue any further.

The place I referred to was indoor / outdoor: it was 2-steps down (from the pavement) to enter the dining area.

Neds, not The Casa Pepe in Galicia?

Just wanted to pop in for a moment to thank you all again for your help. I had a fantastic time, and I truly enjoyed Malaga. It really is a lovely and charming city - especially the city center. I hope to get to work on a trip report soon.

josele Oct 8th, 2009 11:18 AM

Yes, don't take long, I'm curious. In the end the weather was fine, wasn't it?

annhig Oct 8th, 2009 12:54 PM
