Making Way by Ferry
 

I've been checking ferry routes and couldn't figure a few things out. Can I get a ferry from Dubrovnik to Corfu or need I take a bus and then ferry over?

If I ferry from Rhodes to Mainland Turkey, how do I go about getting a entry Visa in Turkey?

Last I heard Americans do not need a visa to enter Turkey. Has this changed?

According to the State Department's web page a visa is required. About 6 years ago I was in Rhodes and at that time we entertained the idea of taking a boat to Turkey. As it turned out we didn't go to Turkey on that trip, but as I recall that we could have obtained it in Rhodes.

Unless it's changed again since I went to Turkey, when you enter the country, whether by plane, boat or train you wil be passing through a Passport Control (Immigration) station where you are required to pay a $20 entry fee for a visa stamp in your passport, good for 90 days. No advance application was necessary for me as a U.S. Citizen.

We entered Turkey at Marmaris on the ferry from Rhodes 2 times. You pay for your visa when you land in Turkey. The last time was 5 years ago. We had to submit and leave our passports with a travel agency the day before we sailed to register our departure. We brought the passports first thing in the morning and picked them up in the evening. I would check to see if this is still required.

The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable, which covers boats, too. The map on page 520 shows that there is nothing directly from Dubrovnik to Corfu (Kerkira), but that Azzurra line and Jadrolinja sail from Dubrovnik to Bari.

The site http://www.aferry.to/Corfu-ferry.htm says you can book a ferry from Ancona, Bari, or Brindisi to Corfu port online. Cooks table 2740 shows many ferries of Ventouris lines on this route. If I use just the book, and just two lines, I find this.

But the book shows also Azzurra lines from Dubrovniuk to Bari and Fraglines and Hellenic Mediterranean Lines from Brindisi to Kerkira. Brindisi is 90 minutes or less by train from Bari

Rest is easy, you are welcomed into Turkey.

Your replies have been most helpful. I am researching all my options. I have to fly into Venice and back from Rome (only option for me to and from the States) but want to see a bit of Croatia before I head to Turkey. Trying to figure out how to make way by land and/or sea - have one month. There is much to figure out on my journey to get there. I am relieved that the Visa seems worry free. May have more questions as I continue to research. Thank you all!

Although Croatia and Corfu don't look too far apart on a map, getting from one to the other would involve a long and complicated journey, considering you've only a month to do everything you want to do. Since you're flying into and out of Italy, to which both Croatia and Corfu have ferry links, why not visit one on your outward journey and the other on the homeward leg?
