Majorca - where to stay?
We (2 adults, 29 and 33 y) will be travelling to Majorca in the first week of October. We have never been there before.
We really don't know which areas / towns that are the best places to stay. We would like to live close to the sea front, we enjoy a combination of everything... relaxing, swimming, hiking, culture, eating out ... Could anybody recommend where to stay? Thank you in advance. |
It may not be warm enough to swim in October, unless you find a heated pool at your hotel, but this has been (so far) an unpredictable summer in many places.
On the west side I'd recommend either Soller or Deia area to give you the best combination for what you're looking for but although Mallorca is an all year round island, some places do close for the owners to take their holidays after Europe's kids go back to school. Palma itself is a great city to visit with lots of choice of restaurants, shops etc. Down to the South West of the island is Andratx, again with coastal walks and a good choice of restaurants. On the North coast is Pollenca, Puerto Pollenca and Alcudia. This is my favourite part of Mallorca and we usually stay in Pollenca, some 5k from the sea, but Puerto Pollenca has a good choice of hotels and some excellent restaurants. |
Thank you for your reply. I also thought that the western or nothern part both would be a good choice.

If you have settled on the west or the north, I'd recommend Pollenca, as I mentioned above. Although it's in the north, there is a fast road down the island that gets you into Palma in 45 minutes or so and helps with getting around to see other areas, either in the mountains or the coast. I'd recommend a rental car rather than public transport.
Pollenca, although not on the sea, (Puerto Pollenca for that) has a great Spanish atmosphere, narrow winding lanes and some very good restaurants. We usually stay at the Hotel Son Sant Jordi, a two minute walk from the main square and it's a lovely small boutique hotel. |
Majorca is a beautiful island and others who frequent this Forum will give you some great tips on where to stay including on the East coast. I have only stayed on the south side where there are some great resorts like Palma Nova. It is next to the wonderful city of Palma and from there you can get to most places. This said, next time that I go I will stay either on the east coast or at Puerto Pollenca. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you everybody for your advises. We've now book a flat in Port de Soller. We are really looking forward to our trip.
