MaiTaiTom says, "Gracias España!"
Wow! What a fantastic trip. djkbooks will be happy to know I didn't cough once in three weeks so the citizens of Spain are currently safe and out of quarantine. We walked about 200 miles in our 20 days (why use public transportation when you have two feet, although the occasional taxi came in handy).
Thanks to thirst quenching GinTonics, we survived and were able to get our 5 A Day at the same time (never have had strawberries in a GT until this trip). I can still taste those GinTonics and wonderful Spanish wine, however I don't mind waiting a couple of years to try more tapas.
The four of us enjoyed virtually every place we visited in Spain (so many incredible sights and sites), and the people we met in Spain could not have been nicer. Although we loved the Alhambra, our consensus puts it at #2 on our Best Attraction list (which is long). The disappointments were few, but enough for a "Special" list as well.
We are now going through our thousands of photos and someday there will be a much too long (as per usual) trip report with photos. First we have to make serious amends with the cats and the corgis, who are contemplating a mutiny if we ever leave them for this long again.
Finally: A big "muchas gracias" to everyone on this board who assisted me in my Spain planning, which helped make this yet another trip of a lifetime! Once again, I count my blessings on how lucky I am to be able to travel.
España rocks! If you have never been…book your trip now. Until the TR…adios!

I have a friend who is fluent in Spanish, being Cuban. Spain was not at the top of my list to visit, as we had been there years ago,for a quick week with our kids. But, when they asked us join them how could we no. We spent a month in Spain and Ioved every minute. I was pleasantly surprised and so grateful to have gone. We had a fabulous adventure and can't wait to read about yours.

Welcome home, tom y todos otros!
Looking forward to your TR and any and all advice you can give for our trip in planning for next spring. We hope to visit Valencia, Cordoba, Sevilla, and Portugal. Most interested in hearing about your driving experiences in Spain!

So glad you had a good time! We haven't been back for almost 20 years, and I am most interested in your reactions to things, especially the booze. I'll never forget the first gin and tonic a bartender poured me in Madrid. He poured and poured and poured the gin over the ice until the glass was almost full and then added a dollop of tonic on top. Coming from a State that stingily measured each shot, I was greatly impressed.
I will happily sign on for your trip report when it arrives.

nukesafe…now, in many places, they just pour the gin (a lot of gin) over ice in a goblet, give you a small bottle of tonic and let you figure out how much tonic to put in it. I was usually light on the tonic…and lightheaded afterward.

"Have GTs replaced el vino as your favorite tipple?"
For the summer, the GT will be my drink of choice. We had a tonic called Nordic Mist Blue Tonic water that is actually a Coca Cola product that you can only (it seems) buy in a few countries in Europe. I have to figure out a way to buy it here, but so far…no luck.
