MaiTaiTom & PBS...Poldark & Chavenage House

Coincidence…I think not.

A couple of years ago we were fortunate enough to be given a private tour of Chavenage House in Tetbury where the series Poldark (now on PBS) was filmed. Here is my write-up with photos of that morning. You might want to pop in the next time you're in the Cotswolds…but make reservations.

I sure enjoyed your report! My husband has wanted me to see that part of the UK for some time. Your photos certainly make it tempting. Your comment about the lamb chops made me laugh! We were in Rome in 2006 and I ordered lamb chops...when they arrived, I felt certain that the kitchen staff had eaten the lamb and just sent out the bones! Seriously!!

paris1953 I felt your lamb chop pain as well. I needed dinner after our dinner.

Just to point out that Poldark is set in Cornwall, not the Cotswolds, so although Tetbury provided the family pile, if you want to see most of the filming locations and the landscape you better head west...

The pleasant town of Tetbury is graced by a picturesque small church and several worthwhile pubs/bistros. It also has a boutique selling overpriced jams from Prince Charles' organic estate nearby. The rolling countryside so much satisfies the post-card image of England's green hills that it has served several film/TV productions in recent decades.

Should you want to stay in Tetbury, the York House was a wonderful base for a few days.

Just saw a poster who had her wedding reception at this place- can't remember who?

Oh that was me! For some reason it popped up on another thread (I've asked for it to be deleted from there).

Yes, my wedding reception (1986) was held at Chavenage House.
Lovely place, we used all the main reception rooms which feature in the Poldark scenes, as well as the gardens. I've been to several parties there, the last one being the 25th wedding anniversary of my father and stepmother.

It's pronounced Chay'v'nidge.

Taping Poldark on PBS right now. I like to get them all recorded and then do a weekend of catching up. :) Just finished Mr. Selfridge III that way. I hope there is a season IV!

julia_t- how fortunate for you! Sounds lovely!
