Mainz carnival worth the hassle (crowds)?
i will be travelling in this area and can be in mainz the 19th ( a carnival day) or equally another night when there is no parade.
since i will be with a mobility limited mom.. i was thinking that this carnival might even hinder our possibilities of
1) getting a nice place to eat
2) worse yet.. getting to and from our hotel easily in the old section.
however.. maybe someone has seen it and can tell me that i really shouldn´t miss it.i am always up for a party.. but.. within limits.
comments, please. Thanks.

it is in the old town and was recommended on this board.
but really not sure what we are going to do. it all depends on the weather.
if it is raining/snowing, we will NOT rent the car, but go to larger cities to do museums, or whatever.
going to reserve first and last nights, but leave the other two open, car included.

Have you already booked your accommodation in Mainz for the 19th? Otherwise your chances of finding a place to stay on Rosenmontag this late are close to zero. The city will go crazy. Absolutely crazy. They are expecting some 500.000 visitors on Monday.
A nice place to eat? Forget it. Entering the city centre? Dito. Here's the map with the route of the parade: http://www.mainz.de/mainzextern/besu...vice/index.htm
Mainz will be one single overcrowded party for the whole week from Thursday Feb 15 to Tuesday Feb 20.
Don't expect any shops or museums to be open on the 19th.
If you are into festivals, crowds and noise, have fun. If not, avoid.
