Maginot Line

We will be vacationing near the border of France and Germany and would like to see any remnants of the Maginot Line fortifications. Also might anyone have anyt information on similar sites on the German Siegfried Line?

There is a Maginot Line remnant being used as amuseum and guided tour (in French} site off the highway between Bitsch, France and Zweibrucken, Germany. It's closer to Bitsch.

Here some related links but I did not check any of them: <BR>http://www.regiments.org/milhist/world.htm <BR>http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/16...ifications.htm <BR>http://www.tourisme.fr/thionville/e_index.htm <BR>Here the names of some of the bigger forts I know of: Veckring, Fermont, Hackenberg, Schoenenbourg. <BR> <BR>I am not sure you will find a lot of practical details in english on the web. Otherwise, you can contact the tourist offices of neighbouring towns such as Thionville, Metz, Strasbourg or Bitche (not Bitsch, by the way). <BR>

In Zweibrucken you will find that the highway signs have arrows to Bitsch which is the German name for Bitche. The highway number is 424. This particular part of Europe was German in the past and most of the towns (villages) have kept their German names. Bitche (Bitsch) has its own military attraction overlooking the town which is a aged fortress named the Citadel, in French and English, maybe even in German.
