Magellan's 'Cabin Cuddler' Blanket
 

Is anyone familiar with this blanket/covering that Magellan's has in it's catalogue and online?
(Magellans.com).

I'm looking for a warm, washable, fold up into a pouch in flight body covering.

I've had trouble going to Magellan's exact link, so I'm only using the name of the product Cabin Cuddler - $34.95.

Any suggestions? No more yucky airline blankets for me.

What do you do about that yucky airline upholstery?

It does look soft and comfortable but if all you want is to stay warm, you could buy a space blanket at a camping or surplus store for a dollar or two. It folds small enough to put in a pocket.

I thought everybody used their 'pashmina' as a substitute blanket..?

Last year I saw the most beautiful cashmere blanket at Nordstrom - on sale for _only_ $250. Tempting, but too large to fit in my pocket.

What is a space blanket? It's not that awful feeling, stiff, spongey type of blanket is it? I'll check out it out though.

Any other suggestions - what do you guys use?

A space blanket looks like a big piece of aluminum foil shaped like a small blanket. I believe that they are made from mylar or similar. They work by reflecting your body heat back to your body and are very effective. People use them for camping, etc. I at times fly as a passenger on military cargo and tranport planes where the temperature can really get cold so I will always have one with me just in case. If you watch the NY marathon on tv, they give them to the runners at the finish line, or at least they did when I ran it. They fold up really small and weigh about an ounce.

I like living on the edge so I use the airline blanket. ;)

I'm with Carrybean on this one. I have enough other junk to tote - stuff that I really need.

Different strokes for different folks - or different travel accessories as the case maybe. I have always used, and always hated the airline blankets, but on 10-12 flights, I get very cold and need to snuggle into something warm.

This time I'm going to try to find something comfortable, lightweight that fits into a pouch that hangs on my carryon.
I also bought from Landsend a microfill (couldn't find down) zippered pillow case cover that folds up into it's own small pillow case and makes a travel pillow, and can also be used over hotel or rented apartment pillows to make them cushier and somewhat,'your own'. I haven't had a chance to travel with it yet, but I will in December. I bought it because I saw several good recommendations for it right here. Both pieces lay flat (like a regular pillow case) and will take up no room or weight in my carryon.

I am one of those finicky people that likes my own personal things when traveling - and of course as we all know, that that is never possible. No more 'yucky' flat, rented apartment pillows for me :-))

Many of you may alread know this --a friend of ours' who is an excutive with a large international hotel chain (and numerous articles and test substantiate this ....
ALWAYS remove hotel bedspreads as soon as you can and stash them somewhere. No kidding, what's on them, is really really disgusting.

Please no lectures on germs. I know they are everywhere - that is a part of life (their's and mine). I live with it by ignoring a lot of things, but if I can do something to make myself more comfortable, than to me, that is a necessary travel accessory - not just more junk to tote.

Just in case anyone else here is interested in seeing what this is or perhaps buying one ...

I found another online company that sells them for the same price as Magellan's, $34.95, which includes free UPS ground shipping, that will save a few $$.

I telephoned the company, Tampersal in Tampa, FL (1-800381-5109) and the owner answered. He gave me the pros and cons of another item that I am thinking of ordering, the 1st Class Sleeper (back pillow type of thing), which we have been discussing on another post. He was very truthful about people either loving or hating the item (as was stated here in the other post), and that they have had about 10% of them returned. Most companies won't admit having even one return.

So, I believed what he said about the Cabin Cuddler, $34.95 total. He said that they have sold quite a few and people really like them, so far no complaints or returns.

Their site has some good drawings of what it looks like and how to use and re-fold in.

Dukey, it covers the 'yucky' seat, so it kills two birds with one stone. - And Faina, it is large enough to wrap my passport in it - next year when I have to renew and get the new chip passport.

I a going to order one next week.

Ok, I think I will lok into this item. I too get the willy's when the airplane blanket gets near my face!!

I am going to Spain in Jan, so it will be chilly.
