Things not to miss in Valencia..The newly renovated San Nicolas Church, entrance on calle caballeros.

Plaza Patriarca.. original 1492 University of Valencia which was in conjunction with the Patriarca monks across the alleyway.

Marques de Dos Aguas Ceramic museum.. free Sunday mornings

Museo de Bellas Artes, next to the Royal Park, "Viveros" , ( worth a long stroll within its boundaries) and a block from a row of nice retsaurants along the Alameda, outdoor and indoor dining. We like BOCADO and most along there are good.. just check their menus.Coffee nearby at the Westin Hotel, relaxing in their luxurious quiet surroundings.

We must not forget the science Center Opera house/Aquarium area. Nice photo opportunities and a lovely restaurant on the ground floor, lagoon level, of the Opera House called "Contrapunt".

And I will throw out our favorite mom and pop place.. not fancy.. just good plain food.. so much variety you won't know what to order.. "Bar/Restaurante Rojas Clemente" in the Plaza Rojas Clemente.

Near the Torres de Serranos, one of the two remaining gates of the original walled city, is a small museum of figures taken out during the Corpus parade, Casa de las Rocas.

Rice is best at the beach Malvarrosa. Big discount at El Coso Restaurant usually, but ONLY reserving on www.eltenedor dot es ( thefork). Destino Puerto, up along the canal, also good tapas , menu, also big discount on eltenedor usually.

We like arroz a'banda.. fish broth rice, at el coso, and ask for some alioli on the side.. when finished, meander over to Las Arenas Hotel , 5 stars, for another coffee.. Cocktails are very pricey but beautiful surroundings.

There are a number of rooftop bars now in Valencia.. just google them.

Our central market is, I believe, the largest covered market in Europe and just beautiful Ricardo Camarena ( michelin star chef) Has a small bar/cafe there with delicious bites all morning. If you would like to try any of his restaurants he has a webpage but one, Habitual, is in the Art Deco converted Mercado Colon. A nice covered marketplace to go to anyway to people watch and have a drink or coffee or horchata, the tiger nut milky Valencia drink.

When at the Central Market you cannot miss going into the LONJA, across the street, but one enters from the backside.. Be sure to go upstairs, too. This is Valencia's ONLY World Heritage UNESCO protected building. A must, with its twisted columns.

You should do the Central Market, Lonja and San Nicolas church the same morning as they are very near.

Science Center and then lunch at the beach as they are well connected by public transportation. Many buses, ( no metro) go to the science area and from there at least two buses to the beach.

Do not buy the visiting card as the museums are very inepxensive and you can interexcahnge a ten- ride bus/metro pass between the two of you if you get on and off at same places. just punch twice.

If you have time to go out to the spring-fed lake, L Albufera, there are many eateries there, also.

If you give me your Valencia dates I'd be happy to suggest some hotels..

I only visited Valencia for a day and was struck especially by the catheral and the area around it -seemed to be so oldworldish. Anyway really neat old centre.
