Madrid to Salamanca to Lisbon - Travel ideas
Hi,
We are a mother and daughter planning on travelling from:-
Madrid - Salamanca (overnight in Salamance Jan 5,6)
Salamanca - Lisbon (Jan 7)
We want to travel by public transport (Train or Bus)
(1) What is the best method of travelling between these places with our luggage ?
(2) Is there an option to hire a car with a driver to do Salamanca - Lisbon ?
(3) Is it worth stopping by in Salamanca for 2 nights or should we skip it and just do Madrid-Lisbon
since the transport to and from seems to be a bit complicated.
We are coming from Australia and do not speak Spanish !
Thanks Folks

You can get a preliminary idea of your travel options from rome2rio.com Be sure to follow up on anything you find, as it is not completely accurate.
I adored Salamanca and thought it worth 2 extremely full days of dawn to nightfall sightseeing, and I was there during the longest days of the year. If going there in winter, I'd add time. YMMV.
As long as you know a few civilities, not knowing Spanish shouldn't pose a problem in Madrid or Salamanca. I'm sure you realize that the language spoken in Lisbon is Portuguese.
Hope that helps!

The Madrid-Lisbon trainhotel sleeper train leaves Salamanca 01:00 and arrives Lisbon Santa Apolonia, walking distance from the city centre, at 07:30.
Book at www.renfe.com or (much easier) www.loco2.com
Choose between
4-berth Turista sleeper with washbasin
1 or 2 berth Preferente sleeper with washbasin
1 or 2 berth Gran Clase sleeper with shower and toilet.
On Renfe.com, sleeper = cama.
You can also book Madrid-Salamanca trains at www.renfe.com or www.loco2.com or www.trainline.eu
