Madrid Restaurant
I will be traveling with my wife to Madrid in October for the first time. She will celebrate her 45th birthday while we are there so I would like to take her to a nice, romantic restaurant. We are staying at the Gran Melia Fenix. Suggestions?

check out the casino de madrid.- this is not a gambling place. that is the "gran"casino.
it is a lovely aristocratic gorgeous building and restaurant . we have dined there with a member but i understand non-members can use the restaurant . you can email them in english and ask. they have an english format of their wepage at www.casinodemadrid.es it is worth a walk around no matter. some of the top events of the year in madrid take place there. |
For such a special occasion, you may want to consider Restaurante La Broche, Miguel Ángel 29-31 (Bajos del Hotel Miguel Ángel). Chef Sergei Arola, a disciple of Ferrán Adriá, has recently been awarded two Michelin stars.
(http://www.labroche.com/) Another excellent gastronomic selection that your wife might enjoy would be Restaurante El Chaflan, Avda. PÌo XII, 34 (http://www.elchaflan.com/). For a more formal, elegant dining experience, there is Restaurante Horcher, C/ Alfonso XII, 6 (http://www.restaurantehorcher.com/home.html). One more recommendation would be Restaurante Santceloni, next to the Hotel Hesperia at Paseo de Castellana (http://www.restaurantesantceloni.com/index_eng.htm). These are among the top restaurants in Madrid in quality, style and creative cuisine. |
Hi,
I think that the website mentions it, but La Broche is closed on weekends (and it destroyed a well-thought plan I had for last May ;) , anyway, it was better, I ended up spending less money ...). The restaurant at the Museo del Traje is supposed to be pretty interesting, although a bit out of the way. http://museodeltraje.mcu.es/ Rgds, Cova |

I can highly recommend the Posada de la Villa, situated in Cava Baja( near Plaza Mayor). Atmosphere, food and service are outstanding. I was there last year and my parents just returned from Madrid and report that it was great.

Although the Posada de la Villa is a great place to eat with very traditional fare, it would hardly be considered "romantic".
