Madrid perfect location

Could somebody please tell me where the nicest area to stay in Madrid is?

I enjoyed the left bank in Paris. I like luxury, but I do not like chaos.

I was looking at Ofila because I enjoy Relais and Chateaux, but I have read that it is in a deserted area.

Which areas are perfect to get the feel?

Thanks!

I think you could be confortable at the Salamanca district.
Hotel Adler
Hotel Wellington
Hotel Bauza
By the way The Hotel Orfila is in a quieter area than the "Chaotic" center, but I wouldn't call it deserted. It is within 15 minutes walking from the Museum area, El prado, Thyssen. And just by Chueca and Salamanca.

Thanks for the response. So, would I be able to find nice restaurants and things to do at the end of the day near Ofila?

The center of Madrid is not too big, from the Salamanca district or The Hotel Orfila, you are still in the center. There are many resturants around or at 5 minutes by taxi.
For classic items shopping or window shopping the best area is the one between Serrano, Velazquez, Goya and Ortega y gasset.
Chueca district is more modern style and at 10 minutes walking from the Orfila.

We stayed at the Hotel Nacional which is part of the NH hotel chain. It is centrally located, across the street and down a few blocks to the Prado. Near the train station and wonderful subway. The building is old, but has been gut renovated and the rooms are very modern and stylish with a lot of wood paneling and glass. We have stayed there twice and the staff actually remembered us. We would highly recommend it.
