Madrid or Seville/Andalusia

My husband and I have 7 days to spend in Spain in July. We know we want to spend 4 days in Barcelona, but are having trouble deciding between Seville or Madrid.
Suggestions are welcome.
We enjoy eating and wine and cultural treks, if that helps at all. :)

Also, the travel websites I have read say that July is unbearable heat. Is it really *that* bad? We are from Texas, so we are quite used to the heat, but definitely not used to no A.C. !

I was in Madrid a few years ago and did not go to Seville - I greatly regret that. Everyone speaks highly of Seville and Madrid was nice, but we had seen it all in a day or two. I would choose Seville.

I've been to both and agree with the above--Seville in a heartbeat. Just check out the hotel to make sure it has AC. It will be hot as heaven! (LOL)

I have been to both Madrid and Seville. I liked Madrid, but loved Seville and wish I had planned more time there.

Seville is lovely but it has the feel of a provincial city whereas Madrid is much larger and busier. Out of the two for a first timer, well, Seville is probably more charming. I love Madrid but many people avoid it.
