Madrid on May 1st
Sunday,May 1st is a holiday and we will be in Madrid on that day. Any idea if the Royal Palace,Segovia, El Escorial,or Toledo would be open on a major holiday. I was able to check some of the museums but couldn't find a website for either El Escorail, Toledo or Segovia. I think the Roayal Palace would be open from 9-3 on May 1. The Prado, Sofia, and Thyssen-Borenmisa all are closed on May 1.Thank you,

We spent a May 1st in Madrid just hanging out in parades, Tapas bars and even caught an appearance of the Royal family at a rally near the Plaza Mayor.
|
El Escorial is closed on 1st May: http://www.spain.info/en_GB/conoce/m..._escorial.html
In Toledo, the cathedral is open 2-6 pm. Other churches are generally open. Expect most paying museums to be closed, including the new Army Museum in the Alcazar. In Segovia, Segovia Museum is open 10-2, as is the cathedral. For others, see http://www.turismodesegovia.com/ |
Thank you very much for the websites, very helpful.
|
May 2 is also a holiday in Madrid.
|
I saw that but will things be closed as much???
|
sorry, not sure.. I think the stores are closed
and usual Monday closings ( museums) |
El Escorial is ALWAYS closed on Mondays. Many selected museums in Madrid as well. In particular May 1st, 2011 is a Sunday, so it will be celebrated on Monday, May 2nd in most of Spain. This is not sitting well with the Madrileños who already get May 2nd off (Madrid) :-D
BTW, May in Madrid is mayhem! party, party, party! |
danon is wrong the 2nd May is only a public holiday the community of Madrid.
|
"danon on Oct 26, 10 at 9:07pm
May 2 is also a holiday in Madrid.' " it is not? |
So would the May 2 holiday exclude Toledo. If so, we could do that on Monday, May 2.
|
tidy, you better check about Toledo to make sure.
May 1st is a holiday but because it falls on Sunday , May 2nd may be also a holiday in many places in Spain. "El Escorial is ALWAYS closed on Mondays. Many selected museums in Madrid as well. In particular May 1st, 2011 is a Sunday, so it will be celebrated on Monday, May 2nd in most of Spain. This is not sitting well with the Madrileños who already get May 2nd off (Madrid) " |
danon I was wrong as in 2010 the extra day falls on May 3. as the 2nd is a Sunday.
http://www.calendario2010.com/calend...ral-madrid.htm To check the other comunidades autonomas dates click on the one you want information on at the bottom of the page. Tidy Toledo is in Castilla La Mancha. http://www.calendario2010.com/calend...lla-mancha.htm |
riberirasacra-- it is pass May 2010; we are in October 2010. Once again from my prior post; "In particular May 1st, 2011 is a Sunday, so it will be celebrated on Monday, May 2nd in most of Spain. This is not sitting well with the Madrileños who already get May 2nd off (Madrid)". May 2nd, 2011 is a Monday

The Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra will give a concert together with one of the world's finest guitarists, flamenco legend Paco de Lucía on May 1st in Teatro Real, close to the Royal palace. Tickets on sale from December 1.

Via...flip here is the correct calendar for "fiestas de ámbito nacional, de Comunidad Autónoma"
http://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2010/10/1...2010-15722.pdf. Maybe time travel is not for me. |
Sorry, I don't read Spanish, can you summarize what the link said.
|
tidy-- just go to Page 3 and follow the row for Mayo 2 Lunes (May 2- Monday). The headings are the Communities (similar to the States in the USA) where Labor Day will be celebrated on May 2nd (i.e. Madrid, Andalucia...). No banking nor Officail Government offices will be open.
|
Tidy; Apart from the explanation above you can always try an online translator. It is not perfect, but you will get the idea.
Also given the time you plan to spend in Spain next year it would be good to learn some basic phrases. |
