Madrid Museums

Does anyone know if there is a museum pass for the Madrid museums? Maybe something similar to the Paris Carte Musee?

By purchasing a combined ticket for the big three--Prado, Queen Sofia, Thyssen-- you'll save a few dollars. It will probably save time, too, if you purchase it at one of the smaller two and can bypass lines at the Prado.
There is also an annual pass for the spanish state museums; its cost is equal to about 12 Prado visits.

Thanks for your response. I checked out the Prado's website and I have two questions: Do you also happen to know if 1) you can purchase the combined pass ahead of time or 2)if the pass must be used on consecutive days?

mkf99,
You can't purchase the "Paseo del Arte" 3 museum pass on the web, only at one of the 3 museums. I purchase mine at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia because the lines are shorter there. The pass is valid for a year. It doesn't have to be used on consecutive days.
The abono (pass) "Paseo del Arte" costs 7,66 euros vs. the total regular admission fees to all 3 for 10,82.
Thyssen: 4,80
Reina Sofia: 3,01
Prado: 3,01
That's your monetary savings.

But the Prado is free on Sun., plus May 18, Oct. 12 and Dec. 6

Free Prado Sunday is the way to go!

Also keep in mind that the Reina Sofia is free Sat afternoons. (At least it was in Nov.) It was a great way to pop in for a quick look at Picasso's Guernica and their Dali's if you're not so much into modern art.

Enjoy your trip,
Paul
