Madrid Metro on Strike

Over the next few days the metro in Madrid is going on strike...it is certain you can expect more disruption over the summer too.

Things are bad. The metro was closed down early this morning, and workers have voted against the minimum services for tomorrow, so forget about coming and going to the airport.

Also, it seems that the strike might get extended without end date.

And next weekend is the Gay Pride festival ... oh well ...

Oh dear! I never use the Metro much in Madrid but later in July I was planning to use it back and forth between hotel and airport when I have to go meet my daughter.

Thanks for the heads up.

I really, really hope it will be solved by then, but right now, specially today and tomorrow, things are bad. I´m lucky that I don´t need the metro to get to work, but it makes things difficult in the afternoon and evenings.

Bye, Cova

The workers are obliged by law to keep at least 50% of the trains running. This time they have ignored that.
It looks chaotic in Madrid, well that is the way the news paints it.

The meeting of Metro workers have just voted for:
Today, complete stoppage, no minimum service.
Thursday and Friday, on strike with minimum service.
Saturday and Sunday, NO STRIKE
Monday, NO STRIKE, workers will hold a ballot on strike.

Let's not forget about the air traffic controller's work slowdown that has been going on. We were delayed a little over an hour at the gate and another 40 minutes on the tarmac on our flight to Bilbao on Monday. Welcome to a long hot summer in Spain (and France).

The metro strike is back tomorrow ( 14th of July ) and on Friday ( 16th of July ). They are also announcing strikes for the 20th and 23rd of July.

There are supposed to be minimal services, but please be aware that even if the trains run, they will be pretty packed.

Rgds, Cova

Cova, thanks for the update.

I thought that winning the World Cup would be a distraction at least for a month!

I hoped too, but good things don´t seem to last.

Cross fingers !!!

Hi Cova/Ribeirasacra,

Do you know if there are any strikes planned for this week? I am arriving Madrid on Friday and was thinking of using the metro on Sat to meet my daughter at the airport.

Thanks!
