Madrid: keep away from this Hostal!
 

My worst (by far) travel experience in Europe: the Hostal Dominguez, in Malasaña, Madrid. Unhelpful owners, noisy and dark rooms, and tenths of etceteras. If anyone knows any Tourism Authority in Spain, pls let me know. I'd like to prevent future travellers from ruining their vacations... Thanks!

It's often said that you get what you paid for, which may be the case with this very inexpensive hotel in a very busy part of a very busy city. There is more then enough information available on the web about this hostel, which you may have wanted to research a little more before booking it, but if you feel you need to make a complaint, then I would suggest you place a review of the hostel on this web site, tripadvisor and maybe even Madridman's web page.

Believe Robert, I searched the Internet for available info. But what most convinced me, was the recommendation from a very popular travel guide. At the end, we moved to the marvelous Hostal Luz, same price, more central, and definitively much more friendly. In this case, we got much more than what we paid for....

Aldo, are you the same person who posted on Lonely Planet just recently about this hostal? Was this the place that locked up its reception unexpectedly, causing you to be unable to retrieve your luggage, thus missing a flight?

Popular travel guides should be taken with a grain of salt as they are often out of date by the time they are published. You can reinforce what information you find in the printed material with what is published on certain web sites, often free of charge. There are a number of good sites, especially those having to do with Spain, that are very reliable, including Maribel's Guides, Madrid Man and Explore Seville, to name just a few who offer good information for everyone’s use.

Yes, I am. And I am too the one who had to buy two new flight tickets to go back home. And the only thing we heard from the hostal Dominguez' owner was "you don't have any right to complain, we held your luggage for free".
Now, we warn other travellers not to even think about staying there... also for free.
