hi, we rented on Calle Mayor ( it was just the 2 of us). Plaza de la Paja looks fine - you cannot get a better rate !. The location is good
We loved the area near the Palace in the evening! We rent apt. every time we can in spite of the work involved ( deposit, keys etc). Having breakfast at home is sooo nice and relaxing ( and cheaper). I hope it works out for you. |
Hi Danon,
Thanks! I also hope everything will be positive. This is our first time renting an apt, so we are new at it! |
This was back in 2005 bu our family of 4 stayed in a very large room in a not so fancy hotel at the place noted below. We liked it because of the internet access. Breakfast was included. As I recall though, we draped a sheet over the bathroom door which was predominantly glass for some reason.

I'm latching on to this thread because I have a question about Spain Select. Hoping cruiseluv or danon will see this...
I'm wondering what their cancellation policy like. Do you lose the deposit no matter what? I'm thinking of going to Madrid in Feb or March 2010, and the apartment I'm interested in is already booked solid through to the end of Jan 2010. So I should probably pick some dates and reserve it asap, but it's so far ahead and I'm a little worried about what happens if for some reason I need to change my dates down the road, and if I need to change dates that may be as good as a cancellation if the flat is booked up. I'll email them, but thought I'd see if I could get an idea checking here first. |
Hi Apres,
I just checked out of Apt Plaza de la Paja. The apt was pretty much as represented, although the second room was even smaller that it looked in the picture! I can´t recall what their cancellation policy was, but I think it was spelled out in their website. They were very nice to deal with and accommodated our early check out by checking us out and returning our deposit the night before. They always were very fast answeing questions by email, so if the policy is not clear, definitively email them. Good luck! |
Thanks, cruiseluv. It's good to know they are professional and easy to deal with. I hope you had a nice time in Madrid.

So jumping on this thread to ask which sections of Madrid would you recommend for a hotel or apartment? We wanna be able to walk or take public transp everywhere.
Thanks! |
Littlehouse,
Although we liked the location of our apt in Old Madrid at Plaza de la Paja (very close to Plaza Mayor) I like better the Barrio de Las Letras. It is very conevenient to the Museums and Old Madrid area. My preferred hotels there are the Villa Real and the Westin Palace. On this trip we stayed our last night at Hotel del Prado in that area at a fantastic rate. For the same rate I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. |
