Madrid Hotel recomendations under 100eu

Wanted to get some feedback from you guys regarding hotels in Madrid for under 100 euros around Plaza Mayor area or Plaza Carmen area. Thanks in advance.

It will be important to know the dates. I mean, in summer you can have quite a good hotel for that price but in winter hotels in Madrid are more expensive except for weekends.

I will be there January 4-7.

Epiphany is celebrated in Spain on the 6th of Jan., a Friday in 2006.

When we were in Madrid we stayed at the Hostal Adriano which was very nice and an excellent location near Plaza Mayor. It is 55 euro for a double. You might want to check out www.madridman.com for more Spain info.

Robert is right, it is still Christmas time here in Spain :) On January 6th, there is a big big parade in the centre of Madrid, the arrive of the three wise men. It's funny to see all the children there !
But if I were you , I wouldn't want a hotel in that area in Christmas time. It's absolutely crowded with a christmas market in the Plaza Mayor and many streets closed to traffic.
Also, I don't think the hotels want to take bookings for the next year until more or less September, they are too busy now with the summer season !
I would take a hotel near the museums (Prado, thysen, reina sofia), I'm sure you can have one in that range of price.

We stayed at the Hotel Europa near the Plaza del Sol. It was within walking distance of many places and was located just off this main drag. I remember right across from it was a Real Madrid store! Mile marker 0, which marks the true center of Spain is located not faraway. My family delighted in stuff like that! You can catch a cab, bus or tourist trolley right on the main street but we walked everywhere including to the Plaza Mayor. It does not have air conditioning but this will not be a problem in January. It is not 5 star but you asked for a decent price! Many on staff speak English and they have a very popular grill downstairs which had great churros in the morning and great beer in the evenings or ice cream delights for our kids! Check it out at www.hoteleuropa.net Have a great time in Madrid!

I stayed at Hotel Plaza Mayor (http://www.h-plazamayor.com/index.english.html) when I was there last October. VERY close to the Plaza Mayor. Nice hotel and I definitely paid under 70 euros for a single.

I second Hotel Plaza Major!
Ask for the corner room on the top floor (I believe it is #7 but not sure)- big room and the view! The best location, exlellent neighborhood and great service at the Hotel; plus avery filling breakfast!

I also recommend Hotel Plaza Mayor. Nice, basic hotel, great location, great price.

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza Mayor last November and got the top floor penthouse for E100 because we stayed for 5 days. The penthouse is wonderful--a very large room with balcony that overlooks the Plaza. Check to see if you can get the discount (normally E120) and the room.

I stayed at the Hotel Plaza Mayor last month, and I, too, recommend it. It’s only yards away from the Plaza Mayor, and it’s within walking distance of the Madrid’s three major museums. Two nearby restaurants to tout: Los Galayos, which is in Plaza Mayor, and Sobrino de Botin, which is very close to it.

Did you check Bancotel? You might be able to get somewhere that would normally cost more for 2 coupons. Just a thought!

It's been a while, but we stayed at the Hotel Europa and it is without doubt incredibly good value for the price. We paid in pesetas at the time and it was very definitely under $100 USD. The rooms are rather spartan, but spotlessly clean (as is the entire hotel) and we had a great, modern bathroom.

As noted by turista above, the location is terrific. Metro station steps away, easy walk to Plaza Mayor and though breakfast was not included, the cafeteria downstairs was very convenient. I will always remember the orange juice machine (like a Rube Goldberg creation). We often sat outside at the tables in front of the cafe and drank Sangria and people watched in the evenings.

I personally don't think you can beat it for price and location.

Stay at Hotel Plaza Mayor last month for 4 nights. The first room was very small but they moved us the next day to a nicer/larger room. The rates were just under 100E a night. The hotel was under going some renovation while we were there. The location was terrific, handy to stores, museums, train station, restaurants, etc. The best part was the very helpful young lady at the front desk.

I would check Bancotel, as Linda did. They have some terrific hotels there for only one voucher (50 Euros) a night, and you could even get the Occidental Miguel Angel (a 5 star) for two vouchers.
