Madrid Hotel Advice

Any thoughts on Hotel Quo Puerta Del Sol in Madrid? Any suggestions on good, moderately priced ($100-$160) hotels in Madrid with a good location?

I do not know this hotel, but Puerta del sol is a very busy area and not very safe at night.

I stayed around Puerta del Sol a couple of years ago and thought it was fine. Typical pickpocketing issues but that is common. Take a look at Hotel Europa for something inexpensive but clean and centrally located.

We really enjoyed our stay Oct. 2004 at Palacio San Martin in Madrid. Very nice hotel, with great rooms, in a convenient location in central Madrid. Very safe feeling. The rate we got was a steal. I just checked, and found a rate for Sept. 2005 for 109 euros. Of course, you'll need to expect added VAT tax.

I was in Madrid 2 wks ago for the first time and stayed at Hotel Plaza Mayor, www.h-plazamayor, it was a good location for us, across from Plaza Mayor, a couple of short blocks to Puerta del Sol a busy area, and up from Atocha train station. The rooms were clean but not large and priced at around $80 a night plus breakfast but breakfast was cheap everywhere so we went to different ones.
