Madrid Hotel 3* or 4* under $300

Help! Looking for a Madrid Hotel, small and charming but clean and easy walking distance to the art museums and tapas bars. Prefer $200-250 or less is good also. We'll be there for 6 nights so want to be comfortable.

Some names I've given are Hotel Gaudi, Hotel Catalonia Moratin and Villa Real. The prices are all over the place and so are the reviews. Anyone familiar with any of these?

You should be able to get this for much less than $300, unless there is an extremely busy event. I stayed at Tryp Cibeles, which is in a beautiful building, but I suppose it probably wouldn't be considered small.

Thank Will. It looks really nice. What's wrong with it?

Hotel Europa - charming in a Victorian way, an attached restaurant, an unbeatable location.

I always stay at Hotel Villa Real very near El Prado and other museums ans walking distance to Plaza Santa Ana and Plaza Mayor.

Last year we paid 140 Euros ( in summertime). I highly recommend it.

Lynnesm, I don't think there's anything wrong with the Tryp Cibeles, but I wasn't sure if it was the type of small hotel you wanted. The location on Gran Via is very convenient in my opinion, although it's not right next to the art museums. It's a 4* hotel, but the reception is up a floor from the main level, so you don't walk into a grand lobby off the street, which apparently bothers some people. The breakfast is excellent.

Vincci Centrum- small but cool hotel, good location.

I have not personally stayed there yet, but in your price range and location ,I have made note of recomendations for the Hotel Grand Canarias. Also if you search the Madrid Forums on T.A. for this hotel, there is a helpful explanation Robert posted a while back explaining the difference in quality & service for this hotel in the Grand Luxe category hotel etc.

Otherwise close to Plaza Santa Ana (tapas) there is also the Catalonia Las Cortes too.
