Madrid Day Trips

My husband and I, along with another couple, will be in Madrid for 3 days in April before heading to Barcelona for another 4 days. Are there any worthwhile places to visit that may not be in the city itself - such as museums, wineries, etc? We all are in our late 20's and love exploring!

Segovia was a beautiful, laid-back town not far from Madrid. Great for just walking around, exploring the beautiful architecture, churches, Roman aqueduct and local museum.

Toledo is a must see! It is very impressive. It is a walled city with ancient architecture, unbelievable churches, and some great restaurants as well!
See Toledo!

TOledo is definitely worth the trip. It's less than an hour by bus (if you catch an express).

We liked both Toledo and Segovia. Lots to see. Take a look!

We took the train to Toledo and loved it. It is an easy day trip, but we were sorry that we hadn't arranged to stay overnight!

There are one hour train rides to Aranjuez and Alcala de Henares. Both are historic sites but very interesting. You might like the museum Cervantes (Don Quixote).

A little furhter but doable by AVE train is Cordoba - the mezquita there is amazing. There is also an Alcazar with lovely gardens. That would give you a brief glimpse of the moorish presence in Spain. SueC1
