Madrid cafe w/ Franco ero memorabilia
I came across a video about Spain on You Tube that featured the proprietor of a cafe in Madrid, called Casa Pepe, which was filled with artifacts and assorted memorabilia from the time when Spain was under Franco's dictatorship. Simply from a historical perspective, I think it would be interesting to visit but I can't find any information online. Is anyone familiar with this particular cafe?

The place is not in Madrid but in the Andalucia to Madrid motorway, in Venta de Cardenas-Ciudad Real-España9867 (very near paso de Despeñaperros). Besides decoration, all food there is great.

Thanks! Too bad it's not in Madrid as I'd understood. Not sure if I'll ever make it down that motorway.

There's a 2008 YouTube video about it, showing interiors, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TgIq...eature=related - gave me chills of the brutal dictatorship.
There's also a 2009 YouTube video about how its lower floors were flooded and totally destroyed. Apparently it's been repaired and reopened according to a CUATRO TV interview of the place, also on YouTube, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHJEp7AF2v4&NR=1 . Saludos, MadridMan at.. ummm... yeah, YOU know where. |
MadridMan,
Thanks for the links. I think it was a video on the Valley of the Fallen that mentioned this cafe. I Googled "Casa Pepe" and couldn't really find anything specific but it never occurred to me to search for "Casa Pepe" in You Tube itself. Duh! |
