Very nice. Is this pretty unusual for banks to support such endeavours? I don't think I personally know of anything similar in the U.S. but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Thanks, crunch.

Thanks for the link, escrunchita. Comfy, it's not unusual. The Caja Madrid supports the special exhibits at the Thyssen, and they're divided into two parts. The major portion displayed at the Thyssen and the rest at the Caja Madrid's exhibit space on Plaza de las Descalzas (across from the Monastery). Many don't realize that these Thyssen exhibits have a "continuation" in another site and thus miss it-and the "extension" exhibit is free!

We were fortunate to see the special exhibits at the new Fundación Mapfre (thanks to the post from Revulgo) which displays some beautiful Sorolla canvases (he's one of my favorites). We also attended the BBVA one in their really stunning palace-it was the first time I had ever been in-the interior is a wow. I highly recommend the addition of these two new exhibit spaces plus the Caixa Forum to everyone's "Art Walk".
The BBVA and the Mapfre are across the street from each other on Paseo Recoletos, above the Thyssen, and the Caixa Forum lies on the Paseo del Prado between the Prado and the Reina Sofía.
Great article.

Maribel, Thank you. I think perhaps? the norm for the large banks in the U.S. that is more commonly known is to sponsor PGA championship events. I like the Spanish banks' way to promote art/culture.

ComfyShoes,
LOL! Yep, my own US bank does a good job of sponsering those PGA championships!
