Just got back from my trip to Barcelona and Madrid. Thank you to all of you who replied to my post. Ended up staying at the Gallery Hotel in the Eixample district in Barcelona and the Petit Palace Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Both were modest, minimalist style hotels, but really comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend. Maribel's Guides were helpful, and the little Rick Steves books provided great walking tours through several of the Museums.
