Madrid & Andalusia in 6 days??
 

My husband and I will be in Spain in October. We'll be arriving at Madrid on Sunday afternoon and leaving the next Sunday at 3:00 p.m. We'd like to visit Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Granada and Sevilla. What would you recommend us? Visit all of them or leave some for the next time?, how long in each one?Thanks in advance for your help!

IMO, that would be too rushed -- but, of course, it depends on what YOU want to see and experience. For example, I think 8 -10 days more reasonable for Andalusia (not counting Madrid or Toledo).

With 6 days, you could see Madrid, Toledo (I'm glad I gave it 2 full days, although some people just visit it as a day trip), and -- depending on what you want to see in Madrid, MAYBE a day trip to Segovia or Cuenca, or maybe Salamanca (another place I thought better suited to at least 2 full days).

Here's what I recommend: Get some good guidebooks (or spend some time with a few in your local library) and plot your wish list on a calendar. Each time you propose to change locations, pencil in your transportation, add some time on either side (for getting to/from your lodging, checking in/out, packing/unpacking, getting lost/oriented, etc.). Then see how things fit together. BTW, note that many things in Spain are closed on Monday, and often for all or part of Sundays too; and many things in Spain will also be closed daily for a very long mid-day break.

You'll see some wonderful things no matter what you choose!

Madrid, Córdoba and Sevilla are connected on the high speed AVE train line, from city center to city center in no time. And Toledo is 30 mins away from Madrid with train. Perhaps focus on these four?

I agree with kja that to try to see all of those places in such a short time will be selling yourselves short. IMO as you are arriving in and leaving from Madrid, it makes sense to base yourselves in Madrid [where there is loads to see and do anyway] and do day trips from there, leaving Andalusia for another time.

If you feel that you can't visit Spain without seeing something of the south, Kimhe is right that the trains are very fast; you could be in Seville in under 3 hours, and in Cordoba in under 2. In that case I would suggest using your arrival day to travel straight to Seville, spend 3 nights there, [Sun, Mon, Tues] then on Wed get the train to Cordoba, spend the day there, and then get the train to Madrid in the late afternoon. That would then give you 3 whole days in Madrid before you fly home on the Sunday.

I would choose one or the other to reduce wasted travel time in this incredible country. If you choose Madrid, I would budget 3 full days for Madrid and then 2 full days for Toledo. Or one full day for Toledo and one full day for Segovia. If you choose Andalusia, I'd give 3 full days for Sevilla and then 2 full days for Granada.
