Madrid Airport. How to get to our hotel?

Our hotel in Madrid is near Plaza Puerto del Sol.
We would appreciate your suggestions about transportation options and experiences.

We took a cab from the airport to our hotel. (our hotel was in the same area as yours). I think we paid about $25. Make sure you get a price quoted before getting into the cab. We had no problems at all.

E-mail the hotel and ask them. Some hotels iun that area use a shuttle service. Hotel Atlantico in Gran Via has a free shuttle from the airport at certain times (three times in the morning at least). Departures from the hotel to the airport are about $7/person, though.

We were there last month and used an outfit called Aerocity. (They're on the web.) We e-mailed ahead of time and they had a van waiting for us. I forget the price, exactly, but it was quite reasonable. (Sometimes, more than one party will share the van.)

Another possibility, if you're into this sort of thing, is to take the subway. There is a subway stop at the airport, and also a stop at Puerta del Sol. I think you'll have to change trains, though.
There is a web site: www.subwaynavigator.com that can give you exact directions on which subway stops/changes have to be made between your hotel and the airport or v/v. You will have to choose the location, and then put in pertinent info, but it was very helpful, just on an informational basis. Although we did not use the subway in Madrid, as we had a transfer with a tour, we did taxi back to the airport, since we stayed several extra days, and the taxi fare was approx $25 from our hotel near the Prado Museum. If you are traveling with a small amount of luggage, the subway would be OK, but watch for pick-pockets, etc. Loved Madrid, and we also spent a couple days in Barcelona. It is also a great city.
